In the intricate tapestry of life, we often encounter challenges that threaten to leave us feeling unproductive, distressed, ruined, empty, and like failures. These are the deceptive lies of trauma that, if left unchallenged, can cast a dark shadow over our journey. As a fellow Christian who understands the depths of adversity, I invite you to explore the transformative power of acknowledging and confronting these lies through a Christian perspective, grounded in Scripture.
Seeking God in Prayer:
It's crucial not to hide from the overwhelming emotions that trauma can bring. Instead of surrendering to isolation, seek help through prayer and turn to God. Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Removing Hindrances to Spiritual Growth:
Choose not to be a victim but rather strive for victory through the grace of God. Consider removing people or influences from your life that disrupt your spiritual growth. Surround yourself with a community that reflects the love of Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:33 encourages us, "Do not be misled: 'Bad company corrupts good character.'"
Embracing God's Redemptive Power:
Denial may seem like a refuge, but it ultimately leads to destruction. Embrace the reality of your experiences, recognizing that a terrible past can become a powerful testimony of God's redemptive power and healing. Psalm 34:18 assures us, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
Identity in Christ:
Your identity is not defined by the circumstances or people who came before you. Remind yourself daily that you are a child of God, created with purpose and infinite worth. Anchor your self-worth in Christ, and let His love be the foundation on which you rebuild your sense of identity and value. Ephesians 2:10 declares, "For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
Combating Lies with God's Truth:
No matter the hurtful words spoken over you, to you, or behind your back, recognize them as attempts by the enemy to undermine your faith. Arm yourself with the truth found in God's Word. Memorize Scriptures that reaffirm your inherent value and potential. Start reading "Victory Over Darkness" and "Bondage Breaker" both written by Neil Anderson. He directs you to the truths that will overcome lies. Psalm 119:105 says, "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."
Reflecting on God's Faithfulness:
While the lies of trauma may create a dark chapter in your life, remember that Satan's influence cannot change our story written by God. Reflect on past disasters that have transformed into blessings through God's wisdom. Consider how God's faithfulness has turned moments of despair into opportunities for growth and purpose. Romans 8:28 assures us, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
Acknowledging Hurt and Healing:
Acknowledge the hurt with a Christian approach: Feel, Deal, Heal. Allow yourself to feel the emotions, confront the issues, and embark on a journey of healing through prayer and seeking God's guidance. Share this process with a trusted life coach who can provide support, encouragement, and accountability. James 5:16 encourages us, "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."
In this approach, anchored in the truths of Scripture, you'll discover the strength that is within you and the victorious spirit that can emerge from the ashes of adversity, guided by the unwavering hand of your heavenly Father. You can recognize the lies and replace them with the truths of Scripture. Let’s continue to walk this road to restoration in truth.
